This wonderful photo (where was it taken?) was submitted by Charlie Papaceno, just one of the many stellar athletes on this 1942 championship baseball team.

You'll recognize the names but what struck me was the very youthful look of all. As I told Charlie, I knew these "boys" only as young men. As a child I saw them as so very big and strong men, not boys. No doubt many were war vetrans by the time I was just beginning to focus my own eyes in the late forties.
And they were champions too.

Shirley O'Brien Lienweber wrote me about the coach's name. She writes:
JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU WHO THE COACH OF THE 1941-42 BASEBALL TEAM WAS. HE WAS OUR SCIENCE TEACHER, ( TOOK ED MUSTARD'S PLACE WHEN HE WENT INTO THE SERVICE ) HIS NAME IS MORRIS KAUFMANN. HE WAS WITH THE WARWICK HIGH SCHOOL STAFF FOR ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE YEARS. ... from Charlie Papaceno

This comment from Judith Fullington (Mapes) -
My Dad was Clete Mapes, Ron was his brother. He would have been about 16 in 1943
