That’s WHS all-star athlete David Morgan in the center. Number 4. He was a starting guard on both 1958 and 1959 Championship teams.
I know the quality of this image, from an old newspaper that lived in my basement for 50 years, is not great, but the thing I wanted here was in the lower right corner, a rare photo of our favorite referee, Vincent Leo, from Newburgh. Leo, as we called him, was so well known in sports circles around Orange County in the 1950s. Anyone involved in athletics in and around Orange County schools in the fifties will have fond memories of Leo in various school gyms during the winter months, spinning the ball on his finger during time-outs, and when the action started, racing over the court, on top of every play.
He was extremely competent as an official, but more so, well known and well liked by all.. ... from Newburgh News
