Clifton G. Brown, "Brownie", NY license plate CD - 6 Patriarch of the Brown family -Peg, Patti, Greg and nephew Robert - that lived on Clinton Ave. He was a gardener extraordinaire, a connoisseur of roses especially. Also Treasurer / accountant for the L&HRR. Kept all of those L&H books the old fashioned way, without calculators. I can still see his accounting tablets and pencils spread out on his dining room table.
    He was a public servant as well, creator of the Little League field and the golf course. I'm sure there are more things, town committees, boards etc., the hospital comes to mind - his portrait hangs in the lobby there.

    Most of all, for me, as a child, it was always a joy to be in his happy company.

    I'm guessing that on this night, as he is pictured here, he was enjoying this, yet another civic duty, as pageant emcee. Circa 1957.

    Finally this, from Bainie and myself. We apologize for raiding your garden that night in the Spring of '57 when, under the cover of darkness, we clipped two of your best roses to thread into the lapel of our white sport coats for the 1957 Junior prom. ... from
